My Professional Experience Journey (Final Reflection) + Masterclass Summary

Overall, my time on the 201mc module has certainly been challenging, stimulating and insightful. As its definitely taught me a lot about myself, in terms of how I work and perform through each opportunity presented to me. From student collaborations, volunteering and editing (for the disruptive media learning lab at Coventry University). Each opportunity has certainly involved its fair shares of set backs (involving some more than others), but this isn't to say that they weren't extremely valuable whilst proving challenging. Within the following I will be touching on a few factors which added to some of my set backs, followed by my own solutions to each one, and what I got from the situation (i.e how I learned from it).

Time Management/Scheduling

- Time clashes

- Scheduling in placement sessions alongside another one.

- Working in the evening (after hours)

Solution: Keeping self organised with a planner (alongside an electronic version). Further utilising various apps and schedulers (i.e Google Calendar/One Note), to organise work flow more efficiently and fluidly. Whilst also monitoring time for each placement (upon those running at the same time, or after the other)

The Art Balancing

- Learning to balance current priorities with new ones.

- Keeping all priorities afloat (as much as possible).

- Reaching middle ground in terms of breaks and time outs.

Solution: Making sure to give self sufficient time to breathe and reflect on each placement constructively (along the way). Further making sure too balance each one in a calm and reflective manner, in order to not overwhelm self in terms of own duties (for each one).

Extended responsibilities

- Working beyond stated responsibilities (to learn more about craft)

- Helping other members of the team (e.g Jade Kemp project) to organise equipment, rooms

and other supportive materials for project (on the whole).

Solution: Using extra responsibilities to your advantage. Thus gaining extra experience in taking on roles outside own responsibilities (due to time frame and even project scheduling between team members). Further using each extended responsibility as a means to nurture and improve own craft coherently and progressively.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I have gained alot from this module (as spoken about above). For me this module has really boosted my confidence, as its made me even more proactive in actively seeking each placement opportunity. Thus establishing my determination, creative craft and passion upon embracing each professional opportunity. I would say that it was very important for me to rely on positive affirmations, considering at times I felt a little overwhelmed with managing more than one placement at a given time simultaneously (as I'd never done anything like it before). However once I brought out my skill of planning, preparing and organising, I quickly felt a sense of relief as I started to build my professional experience brick by brick. Further paying close attention to the formulation of it and even my own roles and responsibilities, as I wanted to give my 100% to each one. Thus I'd say that my experience with all as definitely helped me to work on how I see my craft and the way in which I take up new opportunities, as I can positively say that I certainly stepped out of my comfort zone. Therefore really prompting me to adapt, grow and excel through this 201MC Professional Experience Module.

Masterclass (Summary)

Upon reflecting on all the masterclasses and upon the first masterclass (which my group curated) I have gained the following insights from all:

- How to work off of critique constructively and informatively.

- The importance of feedback

- The importance of reworking and re-editing your film more than once.

- The ability to filter feedback in terms professional views to professional critique.

- Always crediting those involved fairly (as many projects are a team effort, thus deserved to be recognised fully).

Finally looking back on my own groups curation of our first masterclass with Reed O'Beirne. I would say that we approached this masterclass swiftly and promptly. Although at times communication lines were disrupted among some of my peers (some more than others). We managed to pull and put our differences aside in order to fully film, respond and stimulate responses within the masterclass itself. Whether that was through us asking questions, to prompting various responses from our peers. To conclude, the curational aspect certainly proved challenging, but it definitely made us understand the importance of 'collaborative' working and how we respond to each other and our professional guest(s) as a team. Thus giving me the skills and understanding I need to move forward and learn from this experience, if I were to be a a part of something similar in the near future.
